Hi Everyone,

I am in need of some help and advice. We are looking at combining our two coaching staffs (Varsity and Sophomore) for the season. In our area, our varsity consists of primarily juniors and seniors and our sophomore team is composed of sophomores and capable freshmen. If any of you have experience in how this works on game days please let me know. Thanks!!

When we get to Large Group work (5 on 5, 7 on 7, etc), & TEAM Period - they separate.

I agree with Coach Mountjoy with the handling of indy and group time. If you want to keep your JV around during team time, you can run them as a second squad. Have them run the same plays immediately after the Varsity runs the play. That way they get to watch their position at the varsity level and mimic the play of the players in front of them. You also have the chance to have action going on constantly, and you have few players simply standing around for long.

to jump in to a good discussion here at Clovis West we have combined our staffs and it breaks dow in this way:

Monday: Varsity and JV defensive Coaches Work With Varsity Defense 90 minutes and the JV and Varity offensive staff work with JV offense 90 minutes. Then a switch occurs with the JV and Varsity Defensive Staffs work with the JV defense for 30 minutes and the JV and Varsity offensive satff works with Varsity offense for 30 minutes.

Tuesday: Varsity and JV defensive Coaches Work With JV Defense 90 minutes and the JV and Varity offensive staff work with Varsity offense 90 minutes. Then a switch occurs with the JV and Varsity Defensive Staffs work with the Varsity defense for 30 minutes and the JV and Varsity offensive satff works with JV offense for 30 minutes.

Wednesday: Varsity and JV defensive Coaches Work With Varsity Defense 60 minutes and the JV and Varity offensive staff work with JV offense 60 minutes. Then a switch occurs with the JV and Varsity Defensive Staffs work with the JV defense for 60 minutes and the JV and Varsity offensive satff works with Varsity offense for 60 minutes.

Thursday: On thursday JV and Varsity split on work on pregame and review.
