Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
How do any of you guys block power vs. a 7 tech? Do you block down on him with the TE? Is the TE on him by himself or do the tackle and TE combo him. Or do you release the 7 tech for the FB to kick out. If you release him do you have your TE release and go to an ILB or do you arc the TE outside when there is an invert player, like vs. a 4-4? We run power and also what we call blast which is just like power but without the back side guard pulling. If you don't have the puller to pick up the playside ILB does that effect where your TE releases to?

We have done this all of the ways you mentioned. We run a play where the FB kicks the EMOL and no guard pulls, and the other versions where we pull a guard to either kick the DE and swab the FB or the other way around. Usually how we are going to block this vs a 7 technique depends on the defensive personnel we are playing. If the DE is good at causing a pile up and not letting us get inside of him, we will put the TE on him and take the play outside. Otherwise we may release the TE. Our main difference is if we are not pulling a backside guard, we will block down and combo to the nearside LB's wherever we can. IF we are pulling the BSG, we will combo down to the down ILB's and swab the playside LB. The blocking is similar but the plays are different in what LB's you mark. Sometimes we even adjust if the 9 tech OLB walks down late (TE's call).
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

Vs a 7 tech. 6i as he may be called we tell our tight end to take easiest release this vs a 7 tech. he would arc to the outside linebacker we then would kick out with the fullback on the 7 technique and then pull back side guard up on the playside linebacker. Coach Campbell
ON Y/H: 1. ON T UNCOVERED — THRU TO MLB AREA. 2. ON T COVERED & ON G UNCOVERED — DOUBLE WITH ON T (TO BS/LBer). 3. ON G & CENTER BOTH COVERED — GAP BLOCK. NOTE: "SPECIAL" VS. 7 TECHNIQUE — INFLUENCE 7 & ARC BLOCK NEXT MAN OUTSIDE (G OR H WILL TRAP THE 7).
Our power rules are simple: playside lineman block down! We run power mostly without a TE but if we had a TE or overblanced tackle, he'd block down on the 7 tech. With that said, i like the idea of arch blocking to the OLB. For me, its a matter of time that i have to spend with my kids. I dont want to block the same play too different ways. My kids play on both sides of the ball and i dont have as much time with them as I'd like to have. It sounds like you know how to block the play, just do whats best for you and what's most efficient.
