Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We play a very well coached team this friday and finally got film and most of the time they were in spead. The splits between the center and guard have to be at least 2 yards. It's like they are just inviting you to put a man in the gap and rush. That's what scares me because thier staff wouldn't anything unsound. But I don't see how they can protect like that, any thoughts?
All SOUND defenses have split rules. For example - when we played a Wide Tackle Six - our split rules were:
1. Guards (2 techniques) - never align more than fingertip touch (over the ball) apart.
2. Linebackers - if the split between your 7 technique DT & your 2 technique DG is over 2 !/2 yds - make a "TIGHT" call, which moves the 7 tech DT down to a 5 technique, & the 8 technique DE down to a 9 technique.
This enabled us to take away all the advantages of wide splits. Team that use wide splits also do NOT get outside very well - too far to go!

Coach what they are trying to do in most cases along with what Coach Mountjoy mentioned is to single you up and keep you from line games. Large splits normally come from teams that like to throw the ball. The wider splits makes the point from lineman to QB longet thus allowing the QB to get rid of the ball faster with out the quick pressure. Another reason might be the option game. Coach Campbell
