All, I am a JV Assistant Coach, and the Defensive Coordinator. This is my second year in this role. I very much like the Head Coach as a person, but I sometimes feel like he is stepping on my toes. He was the DC before me, and at present he decides what defenses we should prepare for each week, and yesterday suggesting calling in the secondary signals for the game, but decided against it. During defensive team practice, he stands with me (which I am fine with) but whenever a mistake is made he calls the players over and talks to them, which I think I should be doing. Let me know if I am overreacting, or if not how I should broach the topic. Thanks so much

Coach first start by sitting down with the Head coach and ask him his feelings on how you are doing and if there are any potential problems with what you are doing. I know as a head coach it real easy for a coach to be hands on especially when starting up or working with a new coach to his staff. Alot of times no need to take it personal due to the fact the pressure that head coaches can be under. Coach Campbell
An Assistant Coach must ALWAYS work to please the HFC - never the other way around. It is EASIER for 8 Assistant Coaches to adjust to ONE HFC, rather than to expect HIM to adjust to 8 assistants.
Same is true of the PLAYERS - they must follow the lead of the HFC, AND the assistants, both of whom must be of ONE ACCORD!!!
After all - it's HIS butt (not yours) that will be held accountable for the success or failure of the team.
