AHEAD BY 10 = KICK

AHEAD BY 9 = KICK

AHEAD BY 8 = KICK

EVEN = KICK

BEHIND BY 1 = KICK (BUT CONSIDER 2 TO WIN & TIME LEFT)

BEHIND BY 4 = KICK (CONSIDER 2 TO WIN WITH FG)

It SURE helped me (& I would NEVER be without it)!!!

Like anything in football - it is a "standard guideline", & there are EXCEPTIONS, but, I would sure HATE to do that math in my head in a tight situation late in the game!!!

Don't think your critics won't use it AGAINST you, either ("EVERYBODY KNOWS you SHOULD have gone for 2", ETC.). ALL of them probably have a copy!

Here is another 2 point rule that is worth discussing. I was taught as a young coach that in a situation at the end of the game where 1 point will tie and 2 will win, you go for the win in the regular season and play for the tie in the playoffs. Thoughts?

I like the thinking on that, Blackhawk...gives a sense of urgency. My thought is this, though...Why do things differently in the playoffs than in the regular season. Kids pick up on that, and will smell the doubt. That being said, when it comes to playoff "win-or-go-home" attitude, many of the traditional "rules" go out the window, I think. I'm not sure you can live by a rule in that situation. Has to be one of those gut decisions and you have to know your team and the atmosphere of the game in my opinion.
