Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
2 very easy pairings for either running inside veer or load option is to have your QB read the 5 technique. If the defensive end stays as a 5 technique run inside veer if the defensive end moves to a 4i or inside shade of the offensive tackle then run load option. Our load option is to load the free safety and read off the outside linebacker. Coach Campbell
I'm interested, coach, what your adjustment is to the 4i along with the OLB rolled up tight on the OT shoulder--basically a 5-2 look. Do you still load the safety, or do you now load that OLB/DE with the RB?

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.

Option on Me
Option on me gives the quarterback some leeway to read the defense and make a call based on what he sees. He can run the inside veer when he sees no invert outside defender on the openside tackle side of the field. Essentially he is running inside veer to where the invert defender isn't. He can also check to Midline to the tight end side at the 2 or 3 tech if he sees two outside invert defender. This means there is a 6 man box and the offense has the numbers, so the offense should run inside. The quarterback can also check to load option to the tightend side if he sees either no invert defender to the tight end side or two outside inverts with either a 6i tech or a 5 and a 7 tech. Again, the offense has the numbers and wants to take advantage of that.
Overall, I think there are many pros and cons when running th option game this way. The first pro is that the offense always is set up to win, they will run to wherever they have numbers. There is no need for motions and shifts, so the defense can't adjust by alignment. If the defense adjusts, you check to a different option. Its keeps defensive coordinators guessing, and always wrong. The cons to this is it takes a smart, selfless, and quick thinking quarterback. If the quarterback can read the defense correctly, it will work. However, a coach i putting a lot of faith into a kid from ages 15-a8 to read a defense, make the right decision, and make it quickly. If the wrong read is made, the play can get blown up, and people could possibly be hurt. This also puts a lot of faith in the fact that the QB can do this quickly. If the quarterback doesn't read this fast enough, there could be delay of game penalties. Finally, this offense system doesn't account for shifts by the defense or any type of stemming bu the outside invert defender on cadence. If the outside invert stems inside on cadence, or moves outside from inside, all of the reads the QB just made could be wrong and the offense could lose numbers. Overall, i feel this is a good system, but only works with a smart, selfless, quarterback under center.

Option On Me
I don't think there is a better systematic approach then the option on me. This could be done out of multiple formations and under center, pistol, or the gun. There are several things that make this system so dangerous. First of all the foundation is base off of just a few plays. It requires you to completely master those plays and rep them over and over. This will develop a system kids believe in and have a ton of confidence in. Second, the system is made up of complementary plays. Each play has an answer to the defense if they take away the play. There really is not alignment or scheme that can take away all of the plays. The defense has to pick their poison. Lastly, it is so tough to prepare for this offense in just one week. I see a few teams each year that run it but not as much as other systems. This is a huge advantage.
Option on me is set up to always call the best option play into the given front. It is easier to identify the inverts then to count the box every time. Once the QB understand the look it is easy to check to the correct call. If there is not invert Load option could be a great play. If their is a 5 tech then you want to run Veer at them. If you have a reduced front and see a 2 or 3 tech then you want to run midline at that DT. Also you can easily make this same check system and attack a certain player if you think they have a weak player that you want to try to exploit!
