I am hoping to get some ideas to increase my chances of getting a head coaching position in a city that I currently have very few connections. I am currently working hard just to get by financially and do not have a teaching job. I do have an amazing assistant position at one of the best schools in the state, so I feel like besides being a coordinator at just a few other schools, I can't really move up in the world of assistants. The only connections I have are other coaches that would like to have me as an assistant but I have already had to hop around more than any high school coach should ever have to. Four schools in four years literally, kinda feeling nomadic. Does anyone have any methods of networking with the people that make decisions in hiring. I have seen atleast three local jobs go to people with incredibly unimpressive resume's but connections. I currently have eight years of football coaching experience, been a coordinator, position coached nearly every position and have a state ring. I started coaching middle school football the day I graduated from High School basically. Which means I didn't play college ball, and can't land a grad assistant position.
Now I feel blessed and very lucky, but patience is not a virtue of mine lol. I have even been thinking about committing to coaching basketball or other sports just to get inside more schools and meet athletic directors etc.. I can't think of any other ways to get my name out there one way or another. I have connections where I came from but me and my wife really enjoy the area we are now. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
