I am curious to know how some of you go about installing your offense. We get 10 days to use between the 1st week of June and the last week of July, then two-a-days start the first week of August. I feel like I should have my "base" offense in and ready to go into a scrimmage on day 10. I am running a spread offense, so inside/outside zone, toss, qb inside/outside zone, qb dart, qb power. Plus 3 step, 5 step and sprintout protection; with route combos. I would save screens, play action, waggle etc. for 2-a-days.
I have a pretty extensive playbook that has been evolving over the years, but I have my "base" formations, motions, wr sets and plays.
Say on day 1 if you are going to install two formations, is it best to install two 2x2 formations, or your two most used formations, like for me would be 2x2 and a 3x1? I have a spread sheet that I have started to break down each day, into different catagories, Formation, Motion, Pass Pro, Run, Pass. In addition to this I would have a daily schedule for each position coach. Day 3, would be review of Days 1 & 2, Day 6, review Days 4 & 5, Day 9, review Day 7 & 8. I also have game cut ups to watch on these review days before heading out to the field.
.............Formation..................Motion....................Pass Pro..............Run...................Pass
Day1......Spread 2x2..............1 for each...............1 & 3 step..........I/O Zone.............Bubble
..............Three 3x1................RB & WR...........................................................3 step combos
I'm just looking for some good/different ideas, especially the older guys that have had the trial and error. I've read the smart football article on Dana Holgorsen installing his offense in 3 days, so that is really what got me thinking.
