Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I know how the standard counter option works with the qb fake meshing with the b back, and bsg pulling to log the EMLOS. What I would like to know is are there other ways of running it.
Is it possible to pull the bst around to lead block on the pslb or psdb while using the pst to block the EMLOS? In the backfield, the qb will fake mesh with the b back, reverse pivot and run load option with the psa lead blocking for the bsa after his whirly motion.

Best counter option I have seen (heard about it on this board from another coach) has the right A-back go in motion as if to run triple left. On snap, the motioning A-back plants his foot (third step) and dives into the line. He is now the dive back. FB takes one step with left foot on this dive path, plants and becomes the pitch back. If teams are rotating the secondary, or otherwise reacting to your motion on triple, this is a killer.
The above description is for counter-option to the right (off triple option left action).

I like the top approach. If you have a qb who can run option very well, you can run it without pulling the BSG. I run counter option the "traditional" way though.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
I have put into the playbook that we will pull the tackle to lead the option off the backside (as I explained). If it doesn't sync, I can always put it in with a pulling guard, but my guards that I have aren't really fast enough to pull, my tackles however are. I'm hoping it will sync better with a faster, more athletic puller (even though he will be a little behind the 8 ball based on location).
