I am wondering what exactly a bandit/spy/robber coverage(s) are.I asked a couple people before, but the way the explained it to me didn't make too much sense.I think they were going off assignment within their personal schemes rather than just explaining to me the basics of what the were.
The reason I am so interested in knowing is last year I got to work with the varisty.I was up in the box with both varsity coaches who were on the mics talking to the J.V. coaches.I can't count how many times the V defensive coordinator said "hey, there playing some kind of bandit or spy coverage" or something to that effect to the j.v. O coordinator.I mean literally he said it maybe 40 times in the course of one game.Any explanations or help would be appreciated, thanks.
A robber coverage is basically a bastardized cover 2. It is used quite a bit in 44 and 353 defenses. It allows the FS to be an alley filler with underneath coverage responsibilities and the corners play deep halves. It is a pain if you are expecting a cover 3 and get this, but it is usually suceptible to drag routes over the deep middle along with your normal C-2 combinations to put those deep half players in a bind.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
