Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Last year I implemented the Counter Dive (from Ohio U.) into our Spread option offense and it averaged 6.5 yards a carry, in previous years we just ran the counter iso, which also averaged over 6 yards a carry. The play is pretty basic, you can base it(Center on PSIB, FB on BSIB vs even) or fold it with playside Guard and center. We ran in out of double slot or Trips with a "whirly" type motion, the motion back would motion to arms length away from the FB then dive to the A gap to the side he was on. The FB runs a midlinelike course to the other A gap and makes a great fake. The QB does a buck sweep like 180 degree pivot (opening to the FB dive) and seats the ball in his stomach, there is no fake to the FB, the FB makes the fake, then on his second step he "deals the cards" handoff to the motion back, takes two more step and then shows throw to hold the FS. One key point is that The QB steps and stays on the midline with the other backs rubbing his shoulders. This is a quick hitting play and it's hilarious to watch the LB's scrape hard to the initial FB fake and then watch them do a 180 but way too late. It's an easy play to install, you get misdirection without pulling or keying and it's a quick hitter which is unusual for a counter, and you can get the ball to your slotbacks running north/south. You can also give it to the FB if you want to and run PAP off of it as well. Great vs 50 D's, and can check it to a 3 tech. Is any other spread guys running this.
