Weekly Themes
These "Theme's of the Week" will be presented to our football team at the first meeting of the week. During this meeting we will discuss our game plan and opponent for the week and at the end of the meeting the coach of the week will get up a give a 10-15 minute presentation on the theme of the week.
Week 1-Winning
I think it's important to start the season off right with a win in the first week. This week we will focus on what it takes to win a football game and the importance of winning.
Week 2-Confidence
Confidence is something that all of us want but not everyone has. We can build confidence many different way and by making it a theme of the week, it will hopefully help our guys play with more confidence.
Week3-Honesty
I think it's important to talk about honesty with your players. What you do when nobody is looking definitely applies to honesty, however I think you should ask your guys to be honest with themselves and see if they're doing everything they can to help the team and program be successful.
Week 4-Leadership
We choose captains as a team because we felt these were the guys who would best serve to lead us into battle. That doesn't mean that you as an individual can't take charge and be a leader within your position group, in the class room etc.
Week 5-Unselfishness
Doing whatever it takes for the team. In order to be successful, you need everyone willing to do the work without anyone caring who gets the credit.
Week 6-Team Work
The foundation of your team has to be team work. You must be united, willing and excited to work together. Team work beats individual talent every time.
Week 7-Discipline
Discipline can be the difference between winning and losing a game. You see it all the time where two evenly matched teams play against one another, the disciplined team doesn't make penalties or give up costly turnovers and they when the game. They are disciplined in everything they do.
Week 8-Perserverance
Learning to work through adversity is how you become a champion. You're going to face struggles on and off the field but it's how you respond to them that will ultimately define you.
Week 9-Loyalty
Being loyal to your parents, school, teammates, and coach. All of these things mean that you are bought into the team and you are giving the best effort you can possibly give.
Week 10-Mental Toughness
This is a good message entering playoffs or post season play. To become the champion, you will need mental toughness. You must have a never give up attitude because every game from here on out is going to be a battle.
