COACHES , USING THE 40 FRONT , I WAS WONDERING WHAT COACHES HAVE FOUND EFFECTIVE VS THE SPLIT BACK VEER.PLAYS WE WILL SEE ARE THE BASIC VEER PLAYS.(OUTSIDE VEER,INSIDE VEER, COUNTER DIVE, COUNTER DIVE OPTION, CUT DIVE, LEAD OPTION) THEY WILL THROW THE PAP OFF ALL OPTION, MAINLY THE DUMP,COUNTER DUMP. WE HAVE BEEN A 8 MAN FRONT. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT HAS BEEN EFFECTIVE FOR OTHER COACHES. THIS TEAM 1ST CHOICE IS THE FB RUNNING THE VEERS, QB ON OPTION KEEP NEXT AND THE PITCH LAST..
A coach from New Jersey that spoke at the Megaclinic in Atlantic City said that if you run a 22i defense and all out blitz, you will take away the veer.

Coach, By a 22i defense, do you mean both DT's in 2i's or the strong DT head up and the weak inside shoulder? We see a couple of teams that run the Georgia Southern offense. 2 wings, 1 back, no TE, and 2 splits. We run some split 40 at them and some 2i/2i. Our biggest problem is not scheme but their all state fullback. Thanks Coach TSB
Coach, I actually like having 7 tech's vs veer teams. We move our DT's around a lot but our primary look is 3 tech strongside and 2i weakside. Even in a double tight look I prefer the weakside DE to be in in a 7 tech. This allows you to run stunts with the OLB's that cause read problems. If you aren't doing that the weakside 7 can pinch inside.
