Themes of the week:
Each week a different coach will introduce the theme of the week to our team at our team meeting before practice on Monday. Every Monday we go over the schedule for the week and the game plan for our opponent. This is a good time to introduce our weekly topic. The topic will remain on the board in our meeting room so the players can see it everyday before we practice. Each coach who unveils the theme for that week will have to go up and explain why this particular theme was chosen. Why it's important to us as a group and how we can use the theme to improve ourselves and our program. I would expect them to use visual aides from writings projected on the board to a power point presentation to the use of video clips. I would expect each of them to be creative and make sure they use something to capture the attention of each player and drive home the importance of the week's topic. I would expect each of them to do the best job possible and to compete with the other coaches on the staff as to who can do the best job with their presentation just like we ask our kids to compete in everything they do. My list of topics and why I chose them is below.
Week 1 — Attitude
Football is a grind. It can be a tough sport mentally to give your best effort everyday because of its difficulty and repetition. Having a great attitude is imperative to our success
Week 2 — Discipline
A program and a person cannot be successful if they are not disciplined. Everyone must be focused at all times and do their very best in every rep we take in practice and in every aspect of their lives.
Week 3 — Faith
To be successful we must have faith in our program and faith in each other. We must take every opportunity to grow in our faith in our respective Gods, ourselves, and each other.
Week 4 - Dealing with adversity and success
Both success and adversity must be dealt with on a regular basis. Being able to deal with both is paramount to our success as a program. We need to always stay level headed and never get too high or too low.
Week 5 — Excellence
Excellence is a quality that we should aim for in every aspect of our lives. Excellence is measured by consistency and we must be consistent in our preparation and our effort to be excellent.
Week 6 — Love
For us to be successful we don't have to like each other but we do have to love each other. Every member of program needs to have the back of everyone else for us to be successful.
Week 7 — Responsibility
Playing football is a privilege. It our responsibility that we treat it that way and take care of the little things so that privilege is never taken away from us. Be a good student, a friend and a family member.
Week 8 — Work
Be persistent. Come to practice every day and don't be afraid to work as hard you possibly can every second that you're here.
Week 9 — Team
Be unselfish. Put the team before yourself. We're here for the good of the team. We play for the name on the front of the jersey all pulling for the same cause. Check your egos at the door.
Week 10 — Hope
Stay positive. Never give up hope in what we're doing. If we don't have hope we will never be successful.
