This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
As a team we are having trouble tackling this year a lot more then most years. The question that I have for you guys is how often do you live tackle (ie to the ground) during practice? Other then the first few days of practice during camp or 2 a days we don't ever tackle to the ground. We do what we call "thud" practice and I am worried that this is our problem why our guys don't "finish" the tackles.
We do tackle the sled, work on form and other drills all year long but it just doesn't seem to help, especially this year.
So I was wondering how many of you guys actually did live "team" periods, or at least live defensive team periods.

Coach we do live tackling throughout the season but we naver take the ball carrier to the groud. The big emphasis is to keep their feet alive alway pounding up from a low to high position.
We do open field tackling almost every day and mix it with open field blocking almost 15 minutes every day. We do not take down though ever in practice. It decreased greatly the amount of injuries. When we do take down we do it on a large pad. We were successful this year for what is normal at this school, but we didn't have the number of players to do anything else and take down more often.
