Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
What is the best way to stop buck sweep from te/wg,and red/blue using a 50 front? Do you have to cover the center with the nose? Our nose is very small. Thanks
Coach, Stopping the buck sweep has a lot to do with formation tendencies. For example, If the offense is in a one formation (TE/wing) and there is no motion of the wing then they can only run so many plays. For example down, weave and buck. If they do not run down or option to the TE/Wing combo then that leaves one play the buck. 50 alignment for defending the Wing T. Nose in zero. Strongside tackle in a 5 tech. Stronside DE in a 9 tech. Weakside tackle 4 tech. Weakside DE on the LOS. Position of SS is directly in alignment with the ILB to the split the difference between the TE and WIng. Pre snap read will tell the DL which way to slant. Presnap read comes from the formation the offense is in. In this case TE/Wing. The ILB's will call out "LARRY" if TE/WIng are to the left. This tells the NG to slant left. The 4 tech to slant left and the 5 tech to go straight upfield. ILB's will read nothing but the guards. Because the Wing T has strong formation tendencies. When the guards pull to the TE/WIng combo it can only be buck or down. When that happens the ILB's will yell "Pull" as loud as they can to let everyone know that the buck or down is coming. If they hear only one pull call they know it is down. If they hear two people calling pull they know it is buck. In additon to the slants and the reads of the ILB's. Teach your DE's to do what is called a WHAM stunt on the Wingback. It is a stunt in which your DE's job is to slant and take the head off of the wingback on every play he does not go in motion. By doing this it serves two purposes. One: It makes the Wing very tentative and slows down his play. TWO: it protects your ILB from the dwon block when the wing tries to come down inside to crack the ILB. In summary, what happens is you have all of your DL slanting to the play, your ILB identifying the play to the whole defense by yelling "PULL" the DE creating a seam by pounding the WB for the SS to come up and fill for the buck sweep, your CB become pass defenders only and if you notice have no role in defending the run, NG filling the correct "A" gap when the guard pulls and protecting your ILB when they try to run the down. IF they run weak sweep with motioning of the WB to the weakside. The rules stay the same and the CB to the side of the wing would yell "FLY FLY FLY" this tells DL that there presnap call is now opposite and they will slant opposite (IF it was LARRY presnap call then they would slant left. Now that the CB calls fly it tells them to slant right), ILB's still call "PULL" and the DE would wham stunt the HB leading the play. Taking hi on in the backfield. If you have more questions regarding defending the WING T my email is KRogerson@hvc.rr.com I am a part of a program that has run the Wing T for 30 yrs now and know what defenses work against it.
We dont lose any games we just run out of time.
