Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Years ago, I used to frequent Coach Homer Smith's website, whom I am sure you both know of. I asked him what killed the 46 defense? He told me the run n shoot system killed it because that offense took away the advantage of the double eagle system by having 4 wides that had to be covered, and the gap blocking droproll scheme where they could double the nose and also have a single back who would block the EMPLOYS in front of QB who could both block (6 man pro) and also the RB could block and release and the QB could drop it off to the RB who would have no one covering him.
I have always felt there was a way that Joe Gibbs system dealt with Buddy Ryan by including the counter gap as an element of the running game.
But what Really killed the 46 in all honesty because you never see it much anymore and yet for a couple of seasons, it was unlockable.

No backs, One Back sets and trips start to effect the 46 defense. What you would like to do is spread the defense out. If not and you go traditional pro sets then attack the perimeter which makes the zone read and option game very effective. Coach Campbell
