Example
When heading into the upcoming football season I feel it is very important to inform the players and the parents of what is expected of them and what they can expect of us. By having this night of communication I have found that the support for my program has increased because they feel like they are involved. I always start off with the mission of our athletic program and then give my mission for the football program. Everything I do within our program is based off of the verse from Proverbs 22:6. I believe wholeheartedly that this guides my philosophy for my program and that there is no other way. I believe we as coaches have a responsibility to impact those that we coach and that we are required to teach them life lessons through sport. By having this verse as my foundation it helps give me perspective when dealing with my players and their parents. I explain this in my parent meeting so that I know that everyone that participates in my program can be on the same page when it comes to my philosophy. Once I explain the mission for the program I then focus on the objective or vision I have which is to instill a desire for excellence in each student and athlete. All of my efforts and time will be invested into the student/athlete in hopes of impacting their lives so they will in turn want to impact the lives of the next generation. From emphasizing education to serving in the community, I will provide opportunities for them to be a part of something bigger than themselves. Paying attention to the details on and off the field will form a foundation they will be able to stand on even after they graduate from our school. Below is the agenda to the PowerPoint presentation I then go through with them to help them understand:
