As the Head Coach preparing for this pre-season parent meeting a few important things will need to take place prior to the date of the meeting. One will be to notify the parents through the athlete. By send home a verbal or flyer notice in which the athlete may take home. At which time collecting the parents contact information. The athlete will be informed that a Coach will be contacting the parent in person or by phone. Two, the Position coaches will be responsible for making phone calls to their prospective players home or parents. This is done to verbally notify the parent of the meeting and to introduce and create the first positive step of coach -parent relationship. Thirdly the parent will be informed of a home visit request by the coaching staff (either the position coach or the Head coach home visit). This allows the coaching staff and program to move about in the community and build upon the interpersonal relationship. At which time the discussion of the student-athlete, brief program expectations, the parents expectations, concerns, as well as the family history. The parent will again be notified of the parent meeting and personally invited to attend the pre-season parent meeting.
The day of the meeting should be warm inviting as if it was a team mixer or family social (to set a relax family tone). As the parents arrive players and coaches great all parents to invite the family members to introduce themselves to other players and families. The meeting will consist of an open Q&A for parents and position Coaches. After the 15- 20 min social mix Q&A the parents will be address through ppt. explain the program's morals values and vision. Also touching on things such as parent involvement (volunteers hours and conduct), Coach's expectations for players (school work and program dedication), Health and Fitness (in home nutrition & in/off season work out), Academics (study hall & college requirements), Season Schedule (in/off season practice dates and Game schedule), Contact info (head coach and AD office number and meeting time/appointments), and Introduction of all Staff (coaching background). At the conclusion the 30 min parent meeting presentation the parents will receive a program packet of Parent / student - athlete code of conduct clause, season schedule, program info, and contact information. The parents will have an opportunity to use the Q & A box that will be available for all parents that had additional questions and concerns that will be answered directly to the parent the following day.
