Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I would like to do a pursuit drill next year. The kids have never done this. I have only seen it done in college, where the defense had a specific position to fill on offense (LB-OG, NG-C, DT-OT, DE-TE, FS-QB, etc). A D would huddle up on O and call a generic play (dive right, pitch left, spot pass r/l) and then run it. Everyone would fire off only 2 steps, except for the ball carrier who would sprint down field until the whistle, usually at least 20 yards down field. Next play the team playing O is now on D, and a new D steps in to play O. The team playing D aligns to the O, takes their first steps and then sprints to the ball make a tackle until the whistle blows. No contact is actually made with the ball carrier. Anyway, is there an easier/better way to do this at a small HS where all players learn 2 positions? Any help is appreciated. Coach Faust
Coach, We set up a drill similar to that where we will run the play without linemen, or any other players. Just the back. We also will throw quick passes of to the flats and have the defense pursue to the whistle.
We usually take freshmen backs and recievers and then rotate them in with a group on defense.
