just wondering if anyone has tips on how to help the kids who are having trouble with "getting off the ball". are there any drills out there that you have found successful?

Get-offs are conditioned by command. I would like to know more on your system of snap count etc. Would like to visit further on this topic. Coach CAmpbell
A DRILL THAT I FOUND QUITE INTERESTING, THAT I WILL IMPLEMENT IN THE FALL IS THE TENNIS BALL DRILL. THIS WAS A REALLY NEAT DRILL THAT I LISTENED IN ON AT THE SAN ANGELO FOOTBALL CLINIC. ITS ACTUALLY A D-LINE DRILL I BELEIVE, BUT HEY, IT'LL WORK FOR ME. YOU START BY HOLDING A TENNIS BALL IN FRONT (8-10)FT IN FRONT OF EACH PLAYER(PAIRS WORK BETTER) YOU DROP THE BALL IN FRONT OF THEM AND THEY FIRE OUT AND TRY TO CATCH IT BEFORE IT BOUNCES A SECOND TIME. YOU WILL ADJUST DISTANCE ACCORDINGLY FOR PLAYERS. THIS IS A GREAT NON-CONTACT DRILL(RAINY-DAY, OFF-SEASON, COMPETITION,ETC. HOPE IT CAN HELP!!!!

Coach,
One thing that I am going to do this summer to increase the speed in which we get off the ball is to implement some of the things found in speedcity's "Trench Warriors" video. One good drill that they have is to use a "sport-cord," or "Viper" as speedcity calls it. It is a bungee cord tied arond the waist with a belt. The lineman gets in either a 4 point or 3 point stance, and his partne hols the cord taught behind him, and the lineman just fires out as hard as he can. The cord should offer good resistance and build up strength in the legs and torso.
They pull tires across the field. It looks like they connect 2 tires together with chains and take the inner tube of the tires and wrap it around the kids shoulders. The kids then drad the tires
The best way would be to increase the explosiveness of the players. This is done in the weight room. Speed squats, speed deadlifts, various types of pulls. Slow players need to learn how to turn "it" on, although some will never understand what "it" is.
I used this drill this morning for my O-Lineman. I had two guys under a chute. I was 2 yards on the other side of the chute with a tennis ball in each hand. I would call the cadence and drop the tennis balls. It is a great drill that I will be doing at least 2-3 times a week until the season. Thanks for posting this drill.
