The vision I have for our football program is to develop 21st century student athletes that will excel on the football field as well as in the classroom. My coaching philosophy centers on the idea that our athletes’ success will center around three key areas; physical development, mental development and career development.
It will be our mission as a coaching staff to develop athletes who will excel physically on the football field. We will stress the importance of self-discipline in order to keep their bodies in peak physical condition. We will put in twice as many hours in the weight room than our opponents. As a result we will be twice as strong and that much more confident in our abilities on the football field than is our opponent. We will take pride and develop a strong bond during our time conditioning our bodies for the rigors of a long season.
We will also stress the importance of being mentally tough from the moment the athlete enters our football program. As a coaching staff we will push these athletes to new heights that they never thought possible. We will motivate and challenge them mentally to reach these new levels by putting them in situations that will challenge them in ways they never could have imagined. The anxiety we will put on them during practice and game simulations will allow them to stare adversity in the face during the game and allow them to reach their potential athletically during the most crucial part of the game. The mental toughness they will learn during their time in this program will carry over into their life and teach them lessons that will help them be successful on whatever their future endeavors may be.
This football program will strive to ensure that all of our athletes will be able to be successful young men and contributing members to our society. We will stress academic success with all our student athletes. Notice the first word before athlete is “student”. Our athletes will be students first and athletes second. We want our student athletes to know where they are going. What path will they chose after football? It will be our job as coaches to make sure these student athletes have goals and aspirations beyond football. Their athletic ability will only take them so far. We will win with our brains as well as our legs. It is a competitive world out there so developing athletes that have goals in the classroom as well as on the field will better prepare them when their football playing days come to an end.
