Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
For those of you who run a Pro 3-4, excluding tackling and turnover drills, what drills do you like to do that combine both the ILB's and OLB's being drilled together (ie. you have only one coach to coach both positions)? Each position has very specific keys/reactions that must be worked on so I am trying to find out what some of you do to ensure that both positions are getting equal work during the same period.
Thanks for your input. You can also email me directly at jbornn@hartdistrict.org
Coach Bornn, We have ran the 3-4, the only drills we really ever did together were 7 on 7, group run etc... The inside guys worked on guard reads etc.. and the outside guys had to work on their techniques over the T.E etc... They are two completely different positions. What we did because we do not have a lot of coaches is we would have our outside guys lift while the inside guys did indiviual then they would go lift while we would do outside guys, with the same coach... This may or may not work out for you. We find we can find good wt-room coaches easier than position coaches.
Thanks for the response. We have a coach for both the ILB and OLB but one of them is the DC. I wanted to see if there was any drills that we could do during individual period while the DC is freed up to watch the DL and DB's. I was thinking of having the four LB's go against a TE, two OG's, a RB, and an BST (the center and PST would be bags) and doing our reads. The TE and OG's would execute a particular play and the LB's would react accordingly. Other than this, I was thinking of using each to service each other but felt that this would be wasting valuable time that needs to be dedicated to their specific position.
Coach, We some times have a challenge period. Meaning our linebackers will challenge the outside linebackers to a perfect technique drill. For example. Our Outside linebackers have to work on reach, base, down versus a Tight End. So the inside linebackers will play tight end and fullbacks, they try to reach the OLB and down - kick him out etc.... Every time the ILB get a reach or kick out they get a point. When they all have gone the OLB become FB's Center, guards... They now run iso making sure ILB take on with correct shoulder, run trap, sweep etc... their reads must be right or the OLB get a point. The loser has to clean up field after practice. We do this with our d-line etc.... Its a great way bring competition and a way for us to get good quality reps with 2 positions using only 1 coach.
