Expectations of Assistant Coaches

My expectations for assistant coaches on the field are to actively participate with a position group within in the structure of the program. They are to coach the techniques and support the overall instruction and guidance of the head coach and the program. They are to be at all meetings, practices, games, and program events. Coaches will be prepared for practice by being early and present for the entire practice, provide proper guidance and supervision of their players, communicate with the head coach and players properly and maturely, and support the head coach as instructed. Coaches will help prep for game day by prepping the field and equipment the night before the game. They will also help supervise players in the locker rooms and bus when traveling. No alcohol or tabacco will be used during events or prior to working with students. The coaches will respect all players and staff, providing instruction and support to every player from first string to last string. The coaches will communicate and work together with the players best interest at heart. If there are disagreements or issues, they will be handled between the coaches within the coaches office. We must have a united front on and off the field. Off the field, coaches will present themselves professionally at all times as we represent the school and program constantly. Gossip and subordination will not be tolerated, with discussions and punishments (if needed) handled in-house.

Loyalty to the program and head coach are vital aspects of an assistant coach. If there are rifts or subordination, the players can sense that and can be disastrous for a team. This takes away from the goal of the team of constantly moving forward. Loyalty to a head coach and program also help strengthen the programs longevity and overall success. Coaching staffs that stay together, learn together, and are on the same page. By having that comfort and understanding among coaches, they can properly coach and instruct the players consistently. The loyalty and consistency also leads to players/families being more familiar to a program and leads to better participation and continuity with the community.
