Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
1. Code Blue: Coaches notify captains of a code blue at 9pm. in the gym at the school. Everyone shows up but is not allowed to talk until the rules have been established for the next hour. (Parents are notified each year at the spring meeting that this will happen). It can be as simple as a motivational talk, a topic in the school or concerns from the staff. Other times it may be WAR! HC takes freshmen and seniors and the DC takes the sophomores and juniors in separate gyms for rules and planning. The HC controls the Army and Air Force and the DC controls Navy and Marines. Once the rules are explained, 500 tennis balls are dumped in the two gyms. The DC hides and the HC hides. The team that wins is the team that pelts the coach from the opposing team first. During the game each player that gets hit by a ball must drop and do 20 push-ups before continuing. The games causes the leaders to lead, players to be honest, and structured for a best 4 out of 7 series. BTW, all players get to wear their helmets for protection.
Once a year we also dress the same teams in our home and away uniforms for a quiet head to head stare down for 15 minutes. We then hang them up and go home. It works great because they are not use to seeing themselves in game attire in February. We have also ran up mountains in the snow and tubes down, pushed trucks for a mile and had protein recipe shake night.
Regardless of the theme, we continue to love and support each other each week of the year.
Kickers also kick all year! We have nets and film so that they can continue to improve.
Everything we do is communicated with the other coaches in our school. We also support all of them during their games with a huge rowdy group of supporters.
In April, we have a Respect Womens conference where the players and their mothers attend together. We believe if we can teach our players to respect women then they will be successful in their families, dating and in their future marriage. It is a critical key to becoming a gentlemen!
We also have our "Chop Wood" calenders that we check once a month. The theory is that we can win or lose each day. Nothing ever stays the same so either we win it or we lose it. Either way, we mark it for accountability. We have 3 areas. Did you pray today and give thanks for your life? Did you respect others? Did you shake 10 peoples hand today? Did you work out? If you did all four, your day should read 4444. If you did not, it could read 4344 for example.
Each position player should follow a program they received from their position coach at the end of the year banquet that will tell them exactly what they need to work on throughout the year.
Grade checks are every 2 weeks all year long!
Our goal as a coaching staff is to be a parents dream come true. When we call ourselves "Coach", we mean it! We believe coaching is an all the time thing! Commitment is a promise! Win every day cuz you never get it back!

When hiring assistant coaches you should be looking for people that believe in your program and want to help make a difference in the lives of every student-athlete in the program. As the head coach I want to make sure that my assistants are all on the same page as I am and to realize that every kid is a student first. Particularly at Fort Lee where I teach and coach, academics are taken very seriously by the community, school district, and the student-athletes that it is important to make sure every coach is on the same page.
The main expectations I have for my assistant coaches are Accountability, Professionalism, Good Work Ethic, Be a Role Model, and Loyalty.
Accountability for my assistant coaches means for them to always be on time and at least 15-20 minutes early. They must always be prepared for practice, meetings, and games. Also present for any fundraisers or school events that require the coaching staff to attend. Every coach will Professional by always conducting themselves in an appropriate manner at all times. They will always be dressed professionally for games and events with the required coaching gear. Each coach will have a good work ethic at practice, events, games, and will always be willing to seek out knowledge on becoming a better coach. That means going to clinics and learning new skills or coaching techniques. Being a positive role model for the student-athletes is extremely important because we focus on being a family and every student-athlete in the program should look up to their coach and respect everything that he does. That includes having healthy and positive relationships within the coaching staff and with the players. We always want the players to feel comfortable around us. Lastly, Loyalty is the most important expectation I have for my assistant coaches. Coaches need to believe in the program and the direction that it is going in. If coaches cannot be on the same page then it will be time to part ways with that assistant coach. Coaches that are loyal do the jobs without asking and are always willing to help make the program better, while never second guessing the head coach.
