Tid Bits On All Aspects of Football Organization

A comprehensive year-round plan provides a strategic roadmap outlining the program’s goals, values, and long-term objectives. This plan is vital in establishing clear expectations for the head coach and the assistant coaches. It outlines their responsibilities, roles, and performance standards. Having a year-round plan ensures that the coaching staff remains focused, motivated, and working cohesively towards the development of the players and the overall success of the program.


Expectations of my assistant coaches reflect the characteristics I wish to see in each. Servant leadership, master motivators, unmatched organizational skills, and uncanny relationship builders are just a few of the characteristics and expectations I have for my coaches. Additionally, each coach will have specific roles and duties assigned and will be expected to adhere to these duties and follow all staff policies and guidelines set forth by the head coach.


The Off-Season, or phase one, is a vital part of developing any football program. Player evaluations and meetings take place during this time. Players and coaching discuss the previous season, and new goals are set and agreed upon in these meetings. The accountability point system is also explained, and each player will understand the importance of committing to the work in the off-season. Off-Season Strength and Conditioning
programs will run from January through May. Our program will meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during

PE Leadership class.

Phase two is our Leadership Academy and will also occur during the off-season. The purpose of the Leadership Academy is to develop and cultivate the skills and qualities necessary for individuals to excel on and off the field. By combining athletic training with leadership and character development, the academy aims to empower athletes to become well-rounded individuals who can make a positive impact in their communities. Athletes are not only taught technical skills and strategies to enhance their performance but also the importance of leadership, teamwork, communication, and ethical behavior. Leadership Academy will be a 16-week program during the spring semester and will be one day per week following workouts.


Phase three is implementing the summer programs. Having parent meetings where the role of the parents and the expectations of players are defined. Player and Parent contracts will be handed out at this time. These meetings will also be used for booster club, fundraising, and other important information for the summer and upcoming season. Summer strength and conditioning, 7-on-7, team and youth camps, and the start of fall camp information will all be shared.


The fourth phase is what we implement in-season. Themes of the Week, where coaches take a week to focus on a specific character trait of their choosing, is an important aspect of our in-season program. Installing our offensive, defense, and kicking game will also be key in our in-season activities.


Offensively, we are a run-first, no-huddle, RPO-based team. We have a foundational focus on effort and discipline while schematically being balanced, with multiple formations and motions utilizing the entire field. Without huddling, we can go as fast or as slow as we want to go, controlling the pace of the game.

Defensively, we are a bend but do not break team. We play fundamentally sound, run-to-the-ball kind of defense. We are based out of the 4-3 and will play match-zone coverage behind a defensive front that doesn’t gamble. We will bring pressure when it suits us, not when the offense dictates.


Special teams will be practiced daily. The special teams chosen each day will fit the specific segments of practice we are currently working on. For example, when working defense, punt return, punt block, and PAT/FG Block. Our best players will play on the various special teams’ units. If they should need a break, their break will come on offense or defense, as Special Teams is a critical component that can change the outcome of a game.
