This is, in my opinion, one of the most important meetings of the year. The purpose of this meeting is not to discuss wins/losses or how we are going to practice; in my opinion, that is to be done with the players. However, in this meeting, boundaries are to be set and goals are to be established. After we introduce the coaching staff, I like to outline, in powerpoint, these pre-season parent meetings into four segments.
1) Basic policies
2) What do we need to get done?
3) How you can help us?
4) How can we help you?

1) We only have three "rules" here. First rule: be kind. You are your brothers keeper, do not do or say anything that you would not want done to you. Second: be on time. We are all only given 1,440 minutes in a day, so please don't waste yours or ours. Lastly: trust us. This will not work if you, the parent, do not trust us, the coaches. We will trust that you are parenting your child to the best of your ability and it is our hope that you trust our skills and judgement in the realm of athletics. If there is a problem in either direction, address it immediately. Please do not let it fester and spread throughout your home or neighborhood.
2) What do we need to get done? I try to have 5 items that I KNOW we need to have to survive AND parents are willing and able to do. First, we as a coaching staff are here to help your child become a better person. I can assure you that you will get the very best from us as a coaching staff and I am asking for the same from you in return. Then, to the four committees. 1) nutrition (pre-game meals, post-practice water, Saturday Snacks). 2) Ad sales. We need a committee of parents that can help sell ads for our football livestream that can help us financially. 3) Concession. We need a group of parents that will help run the snack bar at both the JV and Varsity games. 4) Banquet. We need a group of parents to organize and prep for the season banquet at the end of the year.
3) We will have a sign up sheet available for any and all persons that are willing and able to help. Be advised, this is a volunteer group of servant leaders. It is very important during this segment to articulate that, no benefits, playing time, or preferential treatment will be giving as a result of assisting the program.
4) How can we help? What are we missing? Do you have any ideas? We have an open-door policy and we hope you take advantage of that.
