Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We wil get into a double tight end set in either the "I" or Offset "I". Then we can run our basic package.
1. We will run an Iso with the C and PSG comboing the NT to the MLB PSG washing the DT out and the PSTE logging the DE "into the nacho stand". BSG will reach BSDT and the BST and BSTE will scoop the BSDE to the BSLB. It has worked well for us.
2. We will also run our 46G. That is our Offtackle play with a G block. Still in Double Tights, BSTE will base the BSDE, BST and BSG will scoop the BSDT to the BSLB, C will base/reach the nose depending on his alignment, PSG will G block the PSDE, PST will wham back(down block) the PSDT, PSTE will inside release and take out the MLB, the FB will lead on the PSLB. This takes a little time to put but once we got it down we ran it with great success.
Go to three wide receivers. They have to get the other defender out of the box or you have an uncovered number two receiver. Then run veer, midline, or load option to the weak side. You have them outnumbered. If the free safety cheats over to the two receiver side, crack the inside lb with the single wide and kick out the corner with the fullback on lead option. Hard to stop.
mg makes an excellent point. Moving to a thre wide set will essentialy put them in a 50. I do not like the midline vs and odd front, but the veer is and excellent play as is the lead/load option.
I would not waste my time runing against a 5-3. I would rather three step and pass against the defense.
Get the defense out of 8 in the box by using twins or twins over. By using twins and twins over you will get a 5-2 or 4-3. In either formation you will remove the extra fprce player. Now you can run whatever you want without being outnumbered or running into a crowd.
GBORO120S I fully agree with Coach K's #1 point. I did this during a game this year, but ran ISO out of twins to the twins side. When we went twins, the OLB went and covered the Z(FL) man to man and they didn't shift their backers over. Needless to say, my RB ran for exactly 300 yards that day. After the half they did switch to a 5-2 so I went away from it for about a series.... then came back to it, the kids forgot the halftime adjustment and my RB ran for three more scores that half. The only forseeable problem is there is no PSTE to Block the PSDE. I moved my TB up to 5yds and my FB up to 2.5 yards and the DE could not catch the play.
Spread them out and go 4 wide. They will be forced to take someone out of the box and they will most likely check to a cover three (giving you six in the box). Run QB veer to the 1 tech. and inside trap to the 3 tech.
Two things that we had success with versus a 5-3 team we played. First, we came out in an empty look and they had LB's covering receivers. We actually had 3 straight uncovered receivers. They called TO and adjusted, but we still had LB's covering receivers. We scored on our first two possessions. From the I, we had a lot of success with our load option to the TE, and inside veer away. They gave us a 0-5-9 to the tight end, and an eagle look with a 3-5 to the open side. Sam was stacked over the Tight Tackle, Mike in the Tight A Gap, and Will in stacked on the 3 tech.
