Based upon the Option On Me rules our quarterback will have 4 options to choose from when calling best option on the line of scrimmage. The way this information is transferred to the offensive unit is simple. In the huddle the quarterback once receiving his instructions from his coach will say "Option On Me On ". Quarterack reads inverts for best option and ball will be snapped on 1. Depending upon the invert rule the quarterback can run towards the openside Inside Veer or Openside Load. Towards the Tight End side he has Midline or Load Option. This gives him 4 distinct option plays based upon inverts, 2 options to either side.
The reason for reading inverts for best option is because the process that the quarterback follows for calling best option is simple and fast. The quarterback will always read from the openside across towards the Tight End. If the quarterback has an outside invert towards the openside that is located off the line of scrimmage he then knows to take his eyes towards the tight end first reading the first down lineman past the center. If he sees a 3 technique then he checks offense into 10 midline.

"Option on Me" quite simply put, allows the QB to make the best choice at the line of scrimmage when surveying the defensive alignment. This essentially is based on the number of defensive personnel "in the box" and the position (invert) of the 2 outside linebackers. From my perspective, it also allows the QB to think, to be in the game, to take control, have options and choose based on his reads. The invert location dictates the best option for the QB. In simple terms how many defenders are "loaded" on a side versus how many offensive players on the same side. Based on Coach Campbell's Power Point, the QB has to decide on 3 choices: run inside veer, midline or load.
Philosophically, it allows the QB to choose the best play. Option on Me can be used to "defeat computerized scouting". This concept puts pressure on a defense as it is impossible to take away all 3 options. This "series" or concept could be used for a hurry up situation or a two minute drill, not allowing the defense to sub in personnel when we want to drive the ball and not huddle.
In our system, for example we would be in an RPO series giving the QB multiple ways of distributing the football. For example if there is one dominant defensive player who we have difficulty blocking, we want to RPO him. This series or system is designed to create confusion for the defense by enticing switches, reducing the athleticism of key defensive player or players and forcing them to play run vs coverage. It may also force the D to play coverage vs man technique. We would run this out of a pistol and move the TB to a gun prior to the snap.
