Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
How would you block an inside trap (to the FB) to the tight end side vs. this defense?
Strong side (TE side) the defense has a nose shaded strong, a 4 technique who's been pinching, and a 9 technique who is crashing like a S*B. LB is a 30 @ 4 yards, and the $trong $afety is an 80 @ 5 yards. Weak side there is a DT in a 3, and a crashing DE in a 5. Weak LB is a 20 @ 4 yards. Backfield action is midline/freeze option from the I.
With the defense pinching and slamming hard, seems to be they are working hard to defend the inside trap. Since you are running a freeze trap with the FB running the midline, why not run the freeze option and take the play to the perimeter? Running it strong, block center back on the 3..PG down on the shade...PT down on the 4...TE to the frontside LB'er...Pull BG and log the slanting 9 tech...QB pull after meshing with the FB and pitch off the SS. pdow
Coach, I don't think this is a good play to the strong side. I would try to trap weak. However, the eagle defense is designed to protect the backside backer. I would go to three wide set then try to trap it. The three wides will force the defense to extend horizontally and leave it vulnerable to the trap.
I would not run an inside trap vs. this. I would try gblocking this. I would have the C base the nose, the pstg pulling and gblocking the de and the pst whaming back on the psdt and the ts inside releasing to th psilb. Have the rb sprint to the sideline freezing the ss for a second to give the fb a little more room to run.
