Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I know you may adjust differently at different times, but are the base adjustments the 3-3 would (or could) make in the following situations ? ...vs. trips (who covers down on #3 ?) ...empty sets (3 by 2 & quads) ...sets with 2 tight ends
1 - go to a cover 3 zone with the corners and safeties playing deep thirds and the spurs playing flats
2 - go to man coverage with the corners covering #1, the safety covering the #2 on the 3 receiver side, and the spurs covering the inside receivers. this leaves you with 6 blitzing defenders vs 5 offensive linement
Coach, What coverage do you play? We have roll and robber versus trips. But can just stay in our cover 3 or man. Depending on what you want to do with your pressure. PGOLLA
Coach, If the team is getting us with hitch by # 1 and then layer their patterns to that side we like to Robber it. Robber tells the corner that he is a cover 2 type player looking to rob hitch, flat etc..... Our Free is now over top as if he were the corner, the backside LB will buzz to the middle of the field to take middle 1/3. Playside OLB still has his Curl.
Roll now tells the corner that he will take any intermediate routes, Deep out, curl etc... Free Middle 1/3,. OLB can now buzz to flat.
You can also change up by having the free buzz down hill to flat area and keep the corner a deep 1/3 player.
We walk the spurs all the way up to outside shade of the TE. Since this is the main Offense we see all year, we appear to be in a 5-3. We have them maintain outside leverage, and still cover the backs out of the backfield.
Coach Hawk, The good thing about seeing double tight 75% of the season, is it's easier to prepare for. Very few checks. Corners and Safety are man. The tough part for us is the other 25%. Making sure we have the right guys as the "spurs" for teams who run the 4 threats on the line that throw a lot.
The best part for us is, most double tight teams want to run the ball between the tackles, which as you know, runs right into our strength.
