Does anyone have their TE pick grass and go to playside ILB on Inside Veer instead of Arc releasing? We have done this in mini-camp and have found it to be effective against a strong ILB. Last year a good ILB hurt us on veer. Are there possible problems with this scheme that we are missing?
This is a good scheme vs 4-3 and 4-4 defenses. We tell our TE to take the quickest path to the LB. vs 4-3 the TE has the OLB over the tackle. On these defenses the dive read is the DE(6,7,9 technique). We also flex the TE up to 5 feet - we will get as wide as we can if the DE will go with us. Vs a 50 we are looking at a Zone Scheme with the TE Folding under the tackles out block.(you can have the TE go first and the tackle drop step and block out) I think Coach Campbell calls this Jill on the midline - we are looking using it on inside veer vs 5-2. Becomes a double option with the FB/QB. if the ball is Pitched it is late and off of the SS/OLB
If we can release the TE down inside to LB we will run outside veer instead of inside veer. We will read the EOL for the dive and the force player for the pitch/keep read.
I know out of a double slot when we run IV and there are 3 db's we have our playside slot (or any#2 receiver, TE, H-back) seal the psib, if there are 4 db's he will arc the playside safety and we will pitch off of psob. However that is out of a balanced formation and the defense has to balance up with it. If your in an unbalanced formation, like Pro I or Split backs, You will probably get a different look, and I would imagaine you would typically arc the TE on 4 deep Safety or 3 deep Monster, unless their in a 44 then you can take him to PSIB.
