Hey Coach I got another question. My footwork is not as good as it needs to be in one of my coach's point of view. What can I do to to improve the quickness, control, and balance of my feet?
And another question right quick. When a defensive player hits a ball carrier, he's suppose to roll his hips. I never heard a coac tell me this until I got to Varsity. But what in the heck does "Rolling the hips," mean? Thanks in advance.

DC29 was right on the rolling the hips thing. I just wanted to add a little something to it. Hitting power comes from the hips. You can have arms as big as tree trunks and hit like a 7 year old girl if you don't have good hip strength and explosion. Your hips should be back and then explode at an angle up and through the ballcarrier. This is the hip rolling. If not in position to make a big hit, it's after contact and wrap, bringing your hips in the same manner up and through without as much explosion.
As for your footwork. What position do you play? Jumping rope is good for foot quickness and coordination for anyone. But, there are also cone drills that can be done position specific to help. These are doing hops and jumps over or around cones and things like that. Like dbs would practice backpedaling and then circling cones, but it would be useless for dlinemen to do that.
