Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We are installing a 50 defense from a school in our area who has won 4 state championships in the last decade. The Dline is told just to blow up the Oline, recreate the LOS and protect the LB's. When in a reduced 50 the Nose is taught just to shoot the A gap. When slanting the Dline they have no landmark (hip, V) but only to shoot the gap there slanting too. It sounds easy enough giving the players little to think about and allowing them to be aggressive, but the talent is not the same at our school and I feel it would be a long season. Is this scheme sound, and what would you do as Offensive Coord. against it?

I, personally, would trap, counter, and boot the hell out of you guys...especially at a high school level. With your linemen going upfield so hard and blind...they are almost trapping themselves. If they aren't getting hands on anybody and reading, they are quite susceptible to almost any type of misdirection. If you are going to use that defensive front--I would strongly suggest teaching your DL's the wrong-arm technique for spilling traps and counters--and you better start early because it's tough to learn. If you make sure your LB's have contain and your ends and tackles can spill traps--it might turn out to be quite an effective defense. I always liked that aggressive style myself, you just have to watch out for those couple plays--they could be big gainers. Good Luck.
Coach, I think you have to teach your d-line how to read and react. When we see kids who do not read and react our option game is going to be a big % if what we will do. Coach Campbell says the option is like playing with 12 kids. When your d-line does not have to be blocked it really is like playing with 12 kids... IF you got great kids make them better, last year we 3 out of 4 of our kids got college scholarships. They want to learn and know what the offense is trying to do to you.
Coaches, Thanks fort the input, The head coach and I had a lenghty disscussion and agreed on reading and reacting would best suit our team. I will be implementing stimulis response and a number of drills from coach Golla's video. I am sure you will be hearing back from me with many more questions as the season unfolds. Coach McDonald
