No Jump Rule in Zone Coverage

We play mostly man, but sometimes we'll be in cover 3. Sometimes, when your corner is on the 1 receiver side, he might as well jump a short route. As long as he doesn't bite on an extended route. Of course, I played for a coach that told us on that, "cover him, or kill him". Which basically meant, Jump the short stuff, and if he sneaks past you, grab him. I know I played a little scared to actually do that.

I guess what i'm saying is, don't totally jump it, but 3/4 jump it. does that make sense?
