I know it is late but I am in desperate need for run and pass drills for my outside linebackers in a 40 defense. I play them off the line but they will have to learn to play against a TE
1. everyday drills 2. run drills 3. pass drills

Coach, I am not a 40 guy but this is what we did. We told our kids in pas if they were in the middle of the field to get to J.O.E. Just outside the hash.... @ 12-15 yards deep. That was their stimulus response. 12 JOE.... We would look up the # 1 rec. Take away curl post then flat.... IF we were not in the middle of the field then it was JON just outside numbers etc......
HOPe that helps/
RUN If we got down block we would come like crazy. Look for power etc.... IF we got reach. We Would get one yard outside. Away we were COBRA cutback bootleg reverse. Hope this helps, This was real quick if you want more just ask for more questions....
We do reaction drills everyday. It is easy to incorporate other skills, such as taking on a blocker and pass drops, while they are performing their reads. Since we read through the TE to the near back we set up the read with a Guard, TE, QB and backfield. Then we go through all the reactions. We do the same thing with and OT instead of TE for weakside reactions. The OLB's will then learn the same reactions from 9 tech alignments. It works good to bring in the DE's to work with the OLB's on these reactions. Our outside linebackers also work with the rest of the force unit on inside skely once and day and work with the Secondary and ILB's on outside skely. Besides doing force unit reactions during inside skely we frequently do stunt skely. Another thing we do is pass drops with a receiver inside and outside of the dropping OLB. The OLB reads the QB's shoulder to determine whether to drop to the curl or go to the flat. If it seems like we spend a lot of time on reactions, we do. If it isn't second nature to them, they won't use it during the game.
