QB throwing problem

as for floating the ball he is not following through. he should flick his wrist and his thumb should endup pointing downwards towards the groung.

What I have to tell my quarterbacks is to quit worrying about all the right ways to do it. If he has no mechanical problems, he does it the right way already. The words that my guys have to hear sometimes are, "Just give it to him." Like if you're throwing an out, when he sees it, "give it to him." No touch, no pointing, following through, none of that. Just give him the ball. Reach it into his chest. I know it's small, but it seems to help their confidence and their mentality. "Just give the ball to the receiver."

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. The one that seemed to work best was TrojanPride's suggestion of "just give the ball to the receiver". I also had him line up at receiver and run several routes. I had our varsity qb throw the ball to him, to see how it should be thrown in several situations. He quickly got the idea and he's throwing better. He still lets one float on occasion, but he has the idea. As a bonus, I found a fourth receiver for our spread set!

Coach: The best advice I have ever seen on passing comes from Coach June Jones at the University of Hawaii. As a back-up QB for the Atlanta Falcons in the 1970's he used this advice to turn Steve Bartkowski from a cannon-armed mediocrity into an All-Pro passer:

"One of the things I found when I was coaching young quarterbacks was that all the good ones had great accuracy. They had different types of arms and strengths, but they were all extremely accurate. The single best thing they had was eye concentration on the target...I want to know whether their eyes are following the football's flight when they throw it or whether they are looking at the receiver until he catches the ball. If you can get them to watch the receiver until he catches the ball, their accuracy will improve tremendously." Coach Jones has outlined the secret of kinesthetic training for quarterbacks. "Your brain will tell your hand exactly what you have to do to get the ball from point A to point B."

Overthrow…………………………Release behind top of arc.
Overstride.

Underthrow………………………..Release in front of top of arc.
Understride.

Tail of Ball Wobbles………………Jerky motion.
Palm not rotated down.
Elbow too wide.
Grip too far forward or back on ball.

Ball Floats………………………….Point too high.
Loose grip.

Point Too High……………………..Point up on grip.

Point Too Low……………………...Point down on grip.

Inability To Throw With Velocity….Weight not transferred to front foot.
Poor hip and shoulder rotation.
Not pulling down on ball.
No hand acceleration.

Throwing across the body.
