Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We are having trouble stopping jet sweep in the 33 defense. Any ideas how to adjust to that motion and not be out-flanked or out-manned away from the jet? Thanks
We just played a jet team friday and gave up a score late in the game. Other than that, we played well and probably held them under 10 yards on the jet.
We play what we call "purple" coverage. All of our colors are a man coverage.
Vs double slot or wing/slot offenses, we start off by playing each Spur at 2x2. Once we get motion (whether tail motion or jet motion), the Spur opposite is now 0x2 -- which is on the LOS. fom here, he is the force player only. The FS who is aligned in the MOF rotates to the side the motion is going to and now has #2. The Spur who is aligned where the motion started from now plays as a fold player and checks opposite wing area for double handoff.
You can also play "purple choke" which places the CB on the TE and is responsible for covering him ONLY. This can be effective if the offense is runs buck, power because now, the WB will downblock on a player who is in man coverage thus, leaving your PSLB unblocked. The FS now has #1 to TE side and #2 WB to the SE side depending on motion.
To the TE side on purple, once the WB and TE block and the Spur forces from 0x2 (great alignment for this technique), you now have the CB and FS fitting inside the force along with the PSLB.
The same rules apply if you get a near or far set and just 1 wing. Now, there is a predetermined HB which is all the motion is as well.
Coach, can I have your set up to a wing t team? I like how you use the coverage. The iso and the counter are 2 plays we had trouble with. Buck sweep was also tough sometimes, but our fs made a ton of plays. I appreciate all you help.
Same setup -- if you get a HB, the FS will have the TE or SB (whover is aligned away from the HB). The Spur away from the HB is now your force player. This is the same as if the HB was aligned as a wing and went in either jet or tailback motion. We like to slant into the the Counter and Double handoff, however, with the BS Spur reading the TE/Wing area if the HB goes away, he can see it coming and can fold into the play if it is not spilled to him. I just watched the tape with our kids today and after watching it again, I do not think our opponent gained more then 10 yards on Buck and Jet. You have them outnumbered at the point of attack. Our FS made 15 solo tackles and had 2 assists.
When do you play this team? I can get you the tape if you want it.
Coach, that would be great. Here's my # at school. 856-779-2880 x530. We play them in 2 weeks. Leave me a time to call and I'll get back asap. Thanks again
