I was just wondering what other people have done to stop the double ISO out of the Power I formation. We haven't been able yet to stop it running a 60 front. We tried playing our noses as A gap players and our tackles as B gap players and this resulted in a bigger C-gap which killed our LBs. Just wondering if anyone could help.
How about playing a 60 front and putting the FS in the midlle of the formation about 6 yds deep. You have a bunch of bodies in the box. You can coach-up the FS as to what you want him to do vs option and pass.
I am also of the opinion that you need to PUNISH every back when they are running the I...whether they have the ball or not...Physically beating them all game will break down their offense and they will get sloppy...The best way i always thought to stop was to assign players to backs...For example...mlb and nose..fullback everytime..tackle...2nd back everytime...end...quarterback..everytime...olb..pitch or 2nd back..make the read but hit someone...and also emphasize on db run support for that week...so the conrner can make a good read and blast the pitchman..without having to worry bout the qb...so many times i see teams neglecting to hit the backs in the option and i dont understand it...the I is about power...show them your the power team...and they break by the middle of the 3rd....
I have the answer for you... I've been running de GAM, with great results but the Ipower gives me a lot of trouble, that's why I use this other sheme, based on the GAM:
We play a team that runs the Power-I the entire game. The best advice I have is to play your base defense and to get your kids to play assignment football. A defensive scheme does not allow your team to get better that week. This is my advice, and I know from experience.
