Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We run a 4-3. What we do is have our outside LB's key the backs. If the back crosses their face they will stop their passrush and follow the backs. If you are talking WR screens and that type of stuff you just have to have people to read it. The corner has to defeat the man attempting to block him and the SS or OLB or even ILB to that side have to read and react to the linemen blocking downfield.

Excuse what I said before. We dont run a 4-3, we run a 3-4, so our OLB's have outside leverage on the offense already. In many passing situations we rush those guys but they must also contain the backs.

In the 4-3 I've been a part of playing and coaching, it's the running back cross the face rule for the defensive ends. The defensive tackles are to continue to pursue and pressure the Qb. You never know, they may get there. The end isn't supposed to cover the back, per se, but he is there to get in the passing lane or make a more difficult throw for the QB. If the end is talented enough to really stay with the back then great, but we don't put tremendous pressure on them to be step for step. The linebackers are reading the line play and should be able to read the screen by them. After that it's run to the ball, beat blocks, and tackle well.
