Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We ran this drill last night. Put two cones about 6 yards apart. Put a defender in between the cones with a hand shield. Have your O-Lineman attack the defender from about 5 yards away. The defender should shuffle between the cones. The lineman must gather upon approach and make contact and drive the defender. Next phase - Get rid of the shield and as the O Lineman approaches, point to a direction that you want the defender to sprint to, simulating the LB attacking the ball carrier. The Lineman must, again, gather and make contact and drive. We run a sprint draw where the Guards stack and pick off the LBs. We missed a few last Friday so the drill was needed.
coach campbell, a couple of questions. 1, how do keep the aggressiveness with your ol, if they are waiting for the backers to come to them? 2, how far off the line do you have them "fire off" when waiting for the backers to come to them?
Here is a quick explanation. From an I the TB takes a drop-crossover-and two steps to receive the ball as the QB runs his sprint path. The QB continues his sprint path after the handoff. The TB receives the ball and runs with his eyes. Line Blocking - Center: Blocks the first down defender on or to the backside. This will usually be either a "0", 1, 2 or 3 tech. The Playside Tackle blocks the first down defender outside of the Center. This will usually be a 2, 3, 4, or 5 tech. Both Guards stack (the Center and Tackle) to a depth of 1 yard and read the LBs. They attack the LBs off of the blocks of the Tackle and Center. The TE arcs and blocks the Force defender. The FB kicks out the first defender outside of the Tackle. The backside Tackle sifts in and rides anything that shows to the outside. Picture a 4-4 (which we face this week). Tackle blocks the 2. G stacks the tackle's block and blocks LB. Center blocks back on the 2 while the G stacks the center's block and blocks the LB. The TE releases on the OLB. The FB kicks out the 7 Technique. This would be the Sprint Draw to the right. If you got the sprint pass going this is a good play. Big yardage for us when blocked right.
yup, illegal here too. can only cut those who start the play on the los. the old timers keep telling me it ruined the fun of being an o-lineman when they put that rule in.
That is too bad. We play by the NCAA rules so we teach the cut block. However, we don't like to teach the cut block on the down defender because it tends to disrupt the cutback lanes.

We play by the NCAA rules here in Texas as well. I agree with your philosophy of using the cutblock on LB's but not the down defenders. However, on a toss play there is a possibility of using the cutblock because the back is not taught to cut this play back.
