This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
How do you play cover 3 against trips? Do you switch to something else?
Our normal key for the inside linebacker (who has Hook/Curl responsibility) would be to look at the #2 receiver to his side. If that receiver goes vertical, he rides with him until the QB sets. Anything else than vertical, he immediately expands to the Curl.
His rule tells him to protect the Hook when threatened and expand to Curl when it is not... Can he still accomplish this by just reading the #3 receiver in trips just as he would read the #2 receiver? How do you guys teach it?
How about defending the backside ? What do you do if teams are running trips to the boundry and their best receiver to the field ? with our 4-3 against trips we would bring our SS down to the flats to give us a 4-4 look allowing the backers to stay in position. We would move our weak end to head up on the tackle so we can widen Will to try and help with the inside route from the single receiver. SS plays flat, Sam widen to hook and looks to wall off crossing routes. Corner looks for 3 step then drops to deep 1/3. Do you get FS to cheat to trips or have him help out with the single receiver - especially for a post pattern.
Someone here was talking about playing corners on an inside shade in trips - is that what you do too ??
CB 1/8 inside #1 receiver, SS 1/5 inside #2 receiver(curl/flat), FS 10yds. off and head up on #3 receiver (with ball in middle of field). Both middle LB stay stacked over their Guards. If it is 3rd Long I will move my strong side middle LB's out to play 1/5 inside the #3 receiver and play his curl zone from there. Will LB will play 5 yds. deep and a couple of yards outside the Tackle. We'll move him out if the #1 receiver on the single side is a threat. If he is not really a threat we'll bring the Will LB tighter to the box and stunt him. Our CB to the single receiver side will play cover III unless the Will LB is on a stunt, than he will lock up man on the receiver.
