The advantages of Shade on the DL

I always played head up with 2 gap responsibilities. What are the adavantages of the Shade technique and is it more effective than 2 gap? The team I coach for now uses the Shade and I have a hard time coaching basic engage and read properties when you are already lined up in a gap.
