First off let just say thanks to Coach Campbell for the great site this is actually my first time posting and I am in need of some advice. I Coach 7th Grade Football in Wisconsin now last week I had one of my players got suspended from school for stealing at a book fair word got back to me about so I discplined my athelete. I benched him for one game well when his mom found out about this she flew off the deep handle saying "this stuff is supposed to be confidential." and " I personally don't like the way you singled out my son". In all actuallty he was not signled out a discussion was made after practice to all player in general I said "When you play for me and this football team you will conduct yourselves as gentleman and not hoodlums, it is bad enough people already think you are a dumb jock because you play football you have to conduct yourselves better than everyone else out there"
I stand behind my decision but she is making me second guess my self due to the fact that there were more kids involved that I did not know about and she is upset that I did not discipine them. Has anyone other coach ever dealt with this before (parents). I am a year away from recieving my B.A. in sports and recreation and I forgot to mention that this team I coach is a Feeder program for the Highschool so I took the job because I wanted to get started in gaining expeirence and now I am thinking because of this mess I won't be asked back next year and I am upset at the fact of job expierence I would be missing. In case I forgot to mention I also do this for free. So any advice you guys might have for me on how to deal with this parent or should I just say hey I dealt with it and move on. I grew up in texas and played my football there so parents getting involved with practice and all the politics is new to me they just were not allowed on the practice field when I was in school. So I gues I really don't know how to handle the situation.
Sorry so long winded I had to clear my head.
Thanks
