I was wondering if any one could tell me the advantage of having your FB path aim for the middle of the guard and then get vertical compared to the normal veer path. My only conclusion would be to give the QB more room on his path, but I'm not familiar enough with the option to know the subtleties of the schemes.
The FB runs straight up the field through the guard. This is out of the bone or I. The QB runs inside the pitch read. Compared to the veer where the FB runs at an angle(veer) through the guard toward the outside.
I really don't see the advantage in having the FB run his path vertical unless you're running a midline option which then his path would be vertical through the center. If you are looking for the midline this would be the proper scheme or start. If the FB's path is through the Guard the QB will have little or no time for an accurate read of the DT and the FB dive could then be eliminated. Hope this helped?
It depends on what the other technique on the DL is. If you are running veer to a 1 and a 5 the advantage of having the FB going vertical is that the DE has alot more room to close down to make the play on him.

We also read a 4i and out which is different from most veer teams. I was just wondering if there was a certain advantage to getting verticle compared to veering.
Well I have heard different theories on reading the veer. I know Air Force reads the first player outside of the B gap, so they could start with a 4i player. Running Veer to a 4i is a little more difficult because he is closer to the mesh point and then has a greater ability to slow play the dive and try to play both the dive and the keep. Also the playside tackle might have to outside release to get to the backer and if the backer fills in the A or B gap he will never get to him.
Like I said the only advantage I can see is that you are getting the FB farther away from the dive read. Hope that helps.
