This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Does anyone run triple option without line calls. Are line calls necessary for the option attack? What is your thoughts on line calls? Good , bad, indifferent..........
We have alwasy used line calls. The important reason for using the line calls is to give the offense the best call versus the front. For example, with a 3tech Dt lined in the B-Gap the inside veer would now be forced to go to an Outside veer or you could go to a Midline. The line has the best vison and will (if coached consistantly) give you th best call 95% of the time. This will also allow the offense to have an answer for whatever the defense has to dish-out. I have also found it relatively easy to coach the line calls. The practice and 'rules' for particular calls are all up to you but in the long run the line calls and the overall communication between the linemen will be the best thing to have with your offense.
Line calls are the best. It keeps the linemen on the same page so everyone knows where they are going and how they are blocking. I wouldnt run triple without em.

We live by our line calls. We run option, but it is not our base scheme. I think line calls give you better matchups up front and allow your linemen to get help were help is needed and to pickup any surprises that might come their way during the course of the game. I think line calls help keep the OL mentally focused on the game and it helps the offense work more efficiently.
We put all plays in with zone schemes. In these schemes our players have to know if they are covered or uncovered. We have line calls to figure out our combos. When running options, we block a specific look. We only run inside veer with an uncovered guard, we only run midline at a three tech, and we only run outside veer to an uncovered tackle. These plays are really concepts for us. If there is a blocking scheme adjustment to these we give it with the play call. For us, line calls with our option plays are not needed. If we wanted to run these plays no matter what the look was I think the call are a must. I'm not sure this is the right way to do things but it has been successful for us.
