Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I Have found double slants work good on 3rd and say 7yds. I also believe strongly in the vertical passing game so I donot believe any length of yardage is out of reach. besides there is always the chance of pass int. on deep throws.
4 times this season we had an important 3rd and 15-20 situation.
We went out in trips or split back with 2 WRs to one side and one WR to the other.
We screen our single-side WR and let our RB run a swing like route to the single-WR side.
The WR runs down hard one yard. If the CB comes inside or close, he stops and gives a handoff to the fullspeed running RB. If the CB stays, he lets the RB block for him and runs upfield.
As mentioned, we played it four times, and got a first down 3 of 4. The fourth situation was 1 yard shy.

Many times in 3rd and real long the defense is obviously going to be playing a little deeper or maybe with a cover 2 shell so sometimes you have to bite the bullet and play for a run after the catch type of route. Try to hit someone on a crossing pattern or something of that matter.
Another route that has worked well against us actually is a post-curl. We had trouble a few times on the varsity level this season getting the linebackers deep enough in their drops, and the good teams we played would try to get a guy behind them in the 13-16 yard range and try to fire teh ball in there.
