First off I'd like to say: great website!
I got my first crack at coaching this season as a 19 year old - freshman in college - volunteer coach for a local junior high team. I pretty much just called the head coach up and asked and he said "sure"! A part of me thought that I'd be doing just SOME coaching, you know - giving some pointers during practice and helping out with water during the game... well it turns out I did the most coaching any 19 year old has ever done for free in the history of football... and it was the best time I've ever had in my life! I was teaching techniques, blocking schemes, playing scout team quarterback, designing some defensive and offensive schemes, and making halftime adjustments on my teasured Figher Price: Magna Doodle.
I'm pretty sure my knowledge of the Xs and Os game is pretty advanced for most people my age... but I do realize there is a lot to learn. I was told that next season I'd be moving "up" in a coaching role so I'm getting on the ball now to learn as much as I can so I don't let the kids (who are really just 4-6 years younger than I am) down. I'm pretty sure that your books/videos/website will help a lot. I've bought some books but they're pretty much telling me things I already know versus the most convenient defensive fronts with the least amount of detail as possible (it's almost as if they don't want to give away "everything")... so that's been a waste of time and money. From what I've heard your books and tapes are the best one can buy.
Anyway, with all that I just wanted to let you know who I was and that I thank you for a great website... it helps guys like me who are trying to learn "everything".
I suppose one question I have about the option is what to do against a 3 tech and a stacked Sam backer on Inside Veer to the tightend side in an I formation with the Z and X split on both sides. (The Will is playing flats to the X side)... now, most people will combo the 3 tech on inside veer to the backer - would one dare try to quick combo the 3 tech to that Sam backer and have the tightend arch to the safety (backside scooping the nose and Mike) or would you want to have them combo back to the Mike and have the tightend block down on the Sam? Could the same thing be done on an ISO play? (Having the tightend base the defensive end and the fullback leading through the gap to safety?)
Another question I have is running Inside Veer against a stack 5-3 defense. If my playside tackle is going to Mike what would stop the defensive from sending their defensive tackle (the numbering scheme I've known my whole life is a little bit different than the standard, so I'll just say head up on the tackle for now) at the Qb and that stacked linebacker to the fullback, and having the end basically box, thereby taking the pitch (assuming the tightend isn't loading him)... in general does the QB have to read the area on any kind of triple option vs. a stacked defense? I've noticed some problems vs. a 4-4 stack defense where they mix it up on the front, looping the tightend to the backer makes the defensive end widen and he plays the QB and pitch, and that outside backer goes for the dive... any suggestions?
Thank you sooo much and I look forward to your reply, I know that was a long read but I felt I'd let you know that your site has helped me out so far... look forward to talking with you more and more.
