The back must square his shoulders the LOS and make a soft pocket. Coach Campbell uses a great term for the back, "Show your numbers." There is no set time he will give or pull the ball, but if the QB still has the ball at his front leg, he should give the ball. You need to rep this to get the mesh. If you only spend 2 minutes on your zone read play, you'll drop the football. You have to give the mesh from the gun time during individual and group periods. Coach Campbell helped us install the counter read from the gun also. It is a great play as well. I am writing a manual on the gun run game, should be done soon.

Since the counter read and zone off of gun is an option read, I think the rule should be consistent to what your coaching your QBs to do when meshing with the FB on your option game. These plays are great Coach Campbell for the fact it forces defenses to play assignment football on the perimeter!
