The past two years we have had a friday night playoff game on a day with no school. We have brought the team in at about 1:00PM and did some activities. I do not think this has been positive.

What game day schedules have others used in this circumstance? Bring them in early or late?

Coach -

We bring the kids up at 9:00 a.m. Watch tape...position meetings...team meeting. We then send them home until they are to report for taping in the afternoon. Has worked fine...bring them up early so they don't sleep all morning...which is out of their regular school day routine. pdow

I have this problem at least twice a year with teacher in-service days and Thanksgiving.
It took a few year to figure out whats works for us.
This is what we do:
We meet for a team breakfast at around 8:00 (when school would normally start)
From there we meet at the school for more film review
I let them go home for the rest of the day until we meet for taping and pregame meetings

I'll give you mine since we play a lot of Saturday games.

Example- home game at 7PM
2:30 Chapel (I coach at a catholic school)
3:00 Team Meal
5:00 Specialists on field
5:30 Offensive Skill positions on field
6:00 Team Stretch and pre-game
(Off field at 6:30)

Away game at 7PM
(1 hour travel)
2:30 Chapel
3:00 Team meal
3:30-4:30 Travel
5:00 Specialists
5:30 Skill positions
6:00 Team Stretch and pre-game

We usually have this problem 3-4 times a year (inservice, sat etc.). We want to get the kids up and following and get their blood flowing, just like a normal school day. We have been sucessful with this schedule.

8:00-Meet a school, stretch, short team jog (3/4 mile), then team breakfast
Dismiss
2:00-films
3:00-pregame meal
4:00-films followed by normal game day activities

I agree with getting them out of bed!!! Keep the routine... We get them in for a short run and film session in the morning, review depth charts on special teams and the like. I even have encouraged them to organize playstation tournaments afterwards and to meet at the same places for lunch.
